ABOUT

LEGACY GOLF COURSE

A Rich History of Golf in North Iowa

Our course was designed as the Mason City Country Club in 1915 by Tom Bendelow, a Scot commissioned by A.G Spaulding to design golf courses all over the United States. Like most of Bendelow’s designs, our course features moderately sloped greens, bunkers close to the greens, and short walks from greens to tees for faster play.

In 2023, the Country Club was renamed the Legacy Golf Course and has undergone significant renovations overseen by Architect Kevin Norby, ASGCA, and PGA Champion John Daly. Significant improvements were also made to the facilities including the construction of the new Pavilion with seating for over 200 people

We feature fast greens, smooth fairways, and tree-lined fairways that are the best for miles around. We have the state recognition of hosting over 20 Iowa Golf Association tournaments; no other golf course within 75 miles has hosted even one single IGA tournament.

The tearing down of the clubhouse revealed a pleasant surprise: old minutes, confirmed by research and a nine-hole blueprint, reveal at least the front nine of the Mason City Country Club was designed by Tom Bendelow, likely the most prolific golf course architect in America and often called "the Johnny Appleseed of American golf course architecture."
