LEGACY 19

A JOHN DALY COURSE

Golf Superstar John Daly Unveils “Daly Tees” During Visit of Newly-Renovated Iowa Course

Legendary pro golfer John Daly leaned on his experience when he helped redesign the former Mason City Country Club, and now he’s had a chance to see how his ideas have come to life.

Amid the improvements made to the course, now under new ownership and now named the Legacy Golf Course at the 19, Daly’s influence will forever be known through new “Daly Tees” – expert-level tees set back an additional distance on several holes. Holes with Daly Tees now pose an additional challenge for long ball hitters by stretching the distance of the hole up to 585 yards.

Daly visited the course on Thursday during an exclusive event allowing him to experience his handiwork. He first played the course in 2022 at the beginning of a major renovation project to repair and improve the course and facilities. With direct input from Daly and under the direction of experienced golf course architect Kevin Norby, significant updates were made, including the installation of new greens on holes 1, 2 and 10, and a full redesign of hole 11 to create a challenging water hole that will be sure to attract golfers from outside North Iowa. Other renovations include the realignment of all fairways and improvements to all bunkers. Recognizing the importance of water management, a new irrigation system has been implemented. This system will contribute to the health and vibrancy of the course and improve sustainability and environmental stewardship efforts.

These updates began when Pritchard Companies took ownership of the private course in 2022. Joe and Pam Pritchard felt it was important to preserve this local community asset that had been in decline for several years.

“The future of this golf course is very important to the Pritchard family,” said Joe Pritchard, President & CEO of Pritchard Companies. “We named it The Legacy to represent our generational connection to the course. My father, Bill Pritchard, worked as a caddie at the Mason City Country Club as a young man. It’s vital to us to keep this legacy going as an asset for our employees, customers and all of North Iowa.”

Other completed projects on the grounds include a new well, drain tile, and tree mitigation projects to enhance the course conditions. Facilities improvements include major renovations of the cabana and maintenance buildings, and the centerpiece of facilities improvements: The Pavilion. This 5,140-square foot events center seats up to 365 and features a fully equipped commercial kitchen, full-service bar, wireless PA system, 15’ x 10’ LED screen, elegant décor and stunning golf course views.

"The Legacy course is John Daly approved, no doubt about it," Daly said upon review of the renovations.
